ELOY PEREZ – Junior Lightweight – SEMI-MAIN EVENT June 5 – Unanimous Decision over Jorge Pimentel
Q) HOW DID YOU FEEL WHEN YOU HEARD THE DECISION AND HOW ARE YOU FEELING NOW, THE DAY AFTER?
When I heard the decision I wasn’t surprised. I thought I did well. I tried to listen to my corner and execute the game plan. The day after I felt good, no real injuries. I’m just ready to get in there and fight again.
Q) HOW WOULD YOU RATE YOUR PERFORMANCE IN LAST NIGHT’S FIGHT?
I rate my performance a B-Plus. I thought I was effective going in and out, but there are a couple of things I can work on and I will as soon as I get back in the gym.
Q) WHAT DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOU DID WELL IN THE FIGHT?
I went in and out well and had a good counter jab and a good counter left hook that we worked on in the gym, but I think I need to set quicker after making the opponent miss. I also think I will try and improve my right hand which I have been working on in the gym. I did a pretty good job on not getting hit with any big punches from a big puncher. I disabled his power and used my advantages with my speed to win every round.
Q) WHAT DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOU COULD HAVE DONE BETTER?
Like I said I could have set quicker after he missed, and I could have capitalized more when he seemed to be hurt. But I didn't get hurt and I won every round so I can't complain.
Q) DID THE FIGHT PLAY OUT LIKE YOU EXPECTED?
Yes, he was a tough guy with a big punch and he fights at a higher weight class usually so I had to be tactical and it worked.
Q) ANY THOUGHTS ABOUT YOUR OPPONENT?
He is very tough and was the toughest I have faced so far. He will beat some guys in the future. He's a good fighter.
Q) WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO DO NEXT?
I have a fight scheduled in July in my home state of Washington, so I'm excited about that. As for beyond that, I hope to fight Yurkois Gamboa by the end of the year.
Q) WAS IT NICE TO BE FIGHTING AT THE TANK AGAIN?
Yeah, I love the atmosphere - it has a big fight feel. It's always nice to work with Jim Sparaco and Craig Goosen and the rest of the great people at the Tank.
Q) WHAT WENT THROUGH YOUR MIND THE MOMENTS BEFORE STEPPING INTO THE RING?
I was just focused. I knew I had to be careful. I was just ready to give that guy a boxing lesson.
Q) LAST NIGHT AT SOME POINTS OF YOUR FIGHT THE FANS DIDN’T APPRECIATE YOUR FIGHTING STYLE AND GOT RESTLESS WANTING A KNOCKOUT. DO YOU EVEN SENSE THAT OR ARE YOU SO FOCUSED THAT YOU BLOCK IT OUT?
I listen to my corner. I appreciate all the fans opinions but the only thing I'm listening to is my corner and they gave me instructions to box and that's what I did. If the fans don't like it they can wait for the next Strikeforce coming up, but what I put on display for them was a boxing exhibition of skill and speed against a very dangerous opponent. I can't please everyone, so I try and please my corner. Do I want a KO? Of course, but he was tough and give him credit, he hung in there. I go out and win rounds - that's what I train to do and that's what I'm in condition to do.
Q) ANY MESSAGE FOR YOUR FANS?
Thanks for supporting myself and my teammates of Garcia Boxing. We train harder than anyone in the business and we hope to represent the best we know how. Thanks again.
