ERIC GARCIA – Welterweight – YOU BE THE JUDGE Participant September 5, 2008
Q) Where are you training?
We started training camp in Los Angeles. But now we're finishing back home in Salinas.
Q) What type of nutrition/diet do you follow when training for a fight?
A very strict high protein diet. Chicken all day, everyday.
Q) How familiar are you with your opponent?
Pretty familiar, I drew with him my debut, so I will be more than prepared for this fight.
Q) What will be your strategy for earning a victory/knockout against this opponent?
We’ll never look for the KO, just follow the game plan given by my corner and if the KO comes, it comes. Just looking for the victory.
Q) Considering you had a disappointing result the last time you fought at The Tank, will you be approaching this fight differently?
I have to be more active and aggressive.
Q) In May you beat Dashon Johnson for your first pro victory. How did that feel?
It felt great, it gave me a rush. Now I just want more.
Q) What did you learn in that fight?
I learned that if I keep my composure let my hands go, and follow my corners instructions, there is no way I can lose.
Q) How do you think Salinas boxing stacks up to the rest of the Bay Area right now?
Well, Garcia Boxing is Salinas boxing.. So its how does Bay Area boxing stack up to us?
Q) Do you think that the crowd will be behind you for this fight?
Most definitely, because I’m from California, and I’m representing the U.S., especially on September 11th.
Q) Why / how did you starting boxing?
My grandma Nora Gallegos. I got beat up a few times and grandma said "no more of that" and took me to the nearest boxing gym, and that was that.
Q) What fighters did you look up to growing up?
Oscar De La Hoya, of course. He's Mexican/American like me, the Golden Boy. Fast, hard hitting and had great boxing skill.
Q) What do you want to accomplish in your boxing career?
To be world champion and to be able to compete with the greats.
Q) How do spend your time outside of the ring?
HAHA.. when you have Max and Kathy Garcia on your team you’re never out of the ring. Boxing is my life and I’m doing everything I can to make it.
Q) Do you have any message for your fans?
Yes! Thanks for the support and keep following me. We're going to the top.
