Tony Johnson – Boxer Blog – September 12 Fight Card
August 31, 2009
Q) Why / how did you starting boxing?
I started boxing in college to stay in shape for basketball then after I moved to the bay area I fought MMA. After an injury in MMA I turned my focus to boxing and have stayed with it since.
Q) What fighters did you look up to growing up?
My favorite fighter growing up was Evander Holyfield. I loved that he was a Christian athlete who had the heart of a warrior and put on exciting fights.
Q) What has been your most memorable fight?
I am still new to the boxing world so I would say my last fight against Henry Wells at the HP Pavilion was not only my hardest fight but most memorable because it was a big hurdle to get over going all 4 rounds at a non-stop pace.
Q) What do you want to accomplish in your boxing career?
I want to be a world champion and let boxing pave the way for my future.
Q) What is your favorite aspect of fighting at the Tank?
The Tank is a great place to fight. This will be my 3rd time fighting here including a Strikeforce show, and also Goldenboy’s ESPN card. I have had a great response every time and the fans in San Jose have treated me well! I love fighting in San Jose in front of the home town crowd.
Q) How do spend your time outside of the ring?
I work at San Jose boxing and fitness on McKee Ave. as a kickboxing/boxing trainer. When I’m not working out or teaching in the gym, I spend as much time as I can with my 2 year old daughter AVA. She is my life outside of fighting and my motivation in life.
Q) Do you have a message for your fans?
Through tough times hard work and dedication to Jesus Christ can get you thru anything life will throw at you, inside or outside the ring.
Q) What is one thing people don’t know about you?
1 year ago I lived in a 1972 Winnebago RV that sat in a parking lot with no electricity or running water. I have sacrificed everything to live my dream and become a successful fighter.
